Self Assessment Engine

ISO/IEC 19770-1 SAM: Are You Ready? / Self Assessment Engine (SAE)

ISO published the ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management self-assessment tool (SAE) on 18 June 2007 and brought it to market under the title of ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management: Are You Ready?, also commonly referred to as ISO/IEC 19770-1 SAM: Are You Ready? This product was developed together with Investors in Software (IiS), which was responsible for developing the software application and the guidance contained in the application.

“ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management: Are You Ready?” / SAE is intended to help organisations, regardless of size, to identify opportunities for improvement in SAM, regardless of whether certification is a longer-term objective or not. If certification is an objective it will help an organisation prepare for and maintain the certification for the ISO/IEC 19770-1:2006 Software Asset Management processes.

This Product is essentially an interactive version of ISO/IEC 19770-1:2006 Software Asset Management Processes, containing all of the required outcomes (or “normative” text) of the standard.

The application sets out the core SAM processes alongside guidance in plain English, allowing IT departments and practitioners/consultants to take immediate steps to implement SAM. The tool enables the user to append relevant documentation to each point – and quickly identify areas of concern.

It is also possible to use the product with additional outcomes and guidance provided by software manufacturers, consultants, and others to leverage the standard in ways which are aligned with the standard, for example to provide best practice guidance relevant to specific software manufacturers. SAE add-ons.

The ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management: Are You Ready? / SAE is available in two different versions; as a organisational use or individual use license. The organisational use license allows the product to be used by anyone in the organisation, using any number of copies, but exclusively for the purposes of that named organisation. The individual use license allows the product to be used by a named individual user only, but that individual (e.g. a consultant/practitioner) can use it on an unlimited number of organisations, so long as the product is only run by the named individual, and the printouts of the contents of the standard itself are not distributed.

The use of ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management: Are You Ready? / SAE and associated data files is permitted only if (1) a valid license copy of the ISO/IEC 19770-1 Software Asset Management Standard has been purchased from ISO or one of its member national standards bodies or their authorised distributors; and (2) the relevant identifying information has been entered into the tool before first use.

The produce is available to purchase from the ‘shop’ section of this website or from the itSMF on behalf of FAST IiS. The price of the single user version of the license is £79, the organisational user license is £209. It is also available from ISO, national standards bodies, and other authorised resellers for ISO and ISO/IEC standards.
