Software-as-a-service (SaaS) is being adopted by many more companies due to the vast range of benefits it brings them, according to a market expert. Patrick Barnard, the senior web editor of TMCnet, explained that a number of organisations have identified that having in-house servers can be expensive and the upkeep of software on-site can be a major issue. He highlighted how many issues become the service provider's burden and not one for the company buying the product, such as upgrades, security programs and any fixes. Additionally, Mr Barnard raised the importance of how the traditional model tends to be less scalable since the customer is limited to the single server which runs the technology - the virtualised nature of such things as software asset management allow use from multiple locations. However, if an initiative to use outsourced technology is to be successful, a business ought to appoint a dedicated manager to oversee the system, said Andy Cocks, an expert in the field speaking to ZDNet Asia. |
