Companies 'need more assistance' understanding software licences |

A recent report by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) has generated a strong response of opposition by a leading institutional investment firm. Scott & Scott made its comments following the study, which claimed that money and jobs will be lost in particularly high amounts when a company uses unlicensed software as it can result in heavy fines. Aside from disputing the number of employment places created by such an initiative, the firm highlighted that more support ought to be offered to businesses facing this problem, as many organisations employ small IT departments with little or no understanding of software licences. It is this which is leading to a number of companies facing unsuccessful IT audits, it added, with smaller businesses on the chopping block first due to the lack of resources available to them - particularly in the recession. The comments highlight that organisations need to consult a software asset management provider for help and support alongside its product. Working as a non-profit trade association, the BSA has 11 offices around the globe and promotes safe and legal technology use. |
