ASIA PAC
In March 2006 The Federation was invited to speak at an International Conference in Seoul, Korea on Global Trends and Issues on Protection of SW Copyright. The Conference was hosted by the Korea Software Property-right Council (SPC) together with their Japanese and Chinese counterparts the Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS). A strategic Alliance was formed with both agencies to pursue the common objective of eliminating software infringement and fostering the software industry by using authentic software products in their domestic markets and worldwide. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to cement this relationship with hosts SPC.
Under this Alliance it is envisaged that there will be a series of joint initiatives to promote IP protection as well as sharing information and personnel.
The Korean Software Property-right Council (SPC) is the only non-governmental software protection organisation in Korea. It was established in 1993 and has about 120 members comprised of software copyright-holders, distributors and software related companies. The main activities include lobbying government for IP legislation, technical support for law enforcement agencies anti-piracy activities, publicity for software copyright protection, consulting business and international activities with similar organisations.
Visit the SPC's website at www.spc.or.kr for more information.
The Association of Copyright for Computer Software (ACCS) was established in 1985 under the name of Legal Surveillance Corporation for Software and changed to its present name in 1990. Its mission is to make a contribution to cultural development of computerised society through copyright protection of digital works and PR activities, research and surveys and assisting in enforcement. It currently has 307 member companies.
