Of the 600 UK organisations surveyed:
- An overwhelming majority are failing to address all areas of SAM
- Most are continuing to expose themselves to the higher costs associated with over-purchasing and also liability for licence overuse
- A majority are merely dabbling in SAM and not exploiting their ROI and realising true benefits
- Only those that identify themselves as more mature with regards to SAM are recognising ROI and making cost savings of up to 20%
This event aims to provide knowledge and share experience to address specific barriers that can hinder the progression of SAM maturity. SIRB aims to offer advice and guidance to overcome the issues and define the steps to achieve an effective SAM programme that delivers a return on your investment.

KEYNOTE 1: The economic climate and its impact on IT practices and strategy
Ian King, Business Editor, The Times
The broader economic climate is affecting businesses both large and small and it is those identified business trends that will ultimately affect enterprise IT practices and strategy. The trends will also bring business and technology stakeholders closer together, especially where pure economics drive enterprise IT decisions. This will create a critical crossroads during this decade impacting on workforce, consumers, business, government and society.

KEYNOTE 2: SAM maturity in the UK market – 2010 UK research
Alex Hilton – Chairman, Software Industry Research Board (SIRB)

WORKSHOP 3: Achieving ISO SAM in stages
ISO SAM for processes (“dash 1”) has been around for over three years. While considered good for its comprehensiveness, it has been viewed as too ambitious by some organisations. It is therefore now being revised to allow attainment in tiers, with no requirement to proceed further than an organisation wishes. The first tier is for ‘trustworthy data’, also sometimes called ‘repeatable licence compliance processes’. This session will give an overview of the proposed update, including what is covered in each tier. The session will also briefly cover other ISO SAM developments, including “dash 2” for software identification which has recently been published.
11.00
WORKSHOP 4: Key requirements and milestones to move up the maturity curve
Based on the results of the 2009/2010 SIRB research 91% of the 600 organisations surveyed need significantly more work in managing their SAM programme to enable them to reap the benefits and significant cost savings that an effective SAM programme can deliver. This sessions will walk you through the operational and technical requirements that an organisation needs to have firmly in place in order to move from one level of SAM maturity to the next. It will outline the benefits that an organisation can typically expect to gain by progressing through the levels of SAM maturity.

WORKSHOP 5: Next Generation SAM – Bringing it all together – reducing software spend costs whilst improving user satisfaction
The capability of SAM has come a long way from simply identifying what software is installed on machines within an organisation. Customers are now realising the benefits and additional cost savings of using integrated technologies that work together to achieve advanced SAM process automation and seamless software harvesting.
