Software Management and Licensing Conference
Software Management and Licensing Conference 2010
Following the success of the inaugural event in 2009, the second UK software Management and Licensing Conference took place on Wednesday 21 April 2010 at Reading's Madejski Stadium. This annual one-day event was organised by the Software Industry Research Board (SIRB), to bring together industry leaders from the Software community to share their knowledge on effective licence management processes, policies and procedures with end user organisations. More than 140 delegates from all sectors of UK private and public sector organisations attended to hear leading software publishers, tools vendors, Software Asset Management (SAM) practitioners and end users give best practice advice for organisations seeking to make cost savings and decrease their compliance risks. The SIRB white paper 'UK Software Asset Management Maturity' was released at the conference. The paper is a result of the SIRB's annual research project which is conducted by IDC. To download a copy of the paper please visit http://www.sirb.co.uk. Alex Hilton, Chairman of the SIRB and Vice President at FrontRange Solutions said:...

Getting Started with Cloud Computing

Ingres
Deb Woods
Deb Woods - Ingres
Cloud computing is a big economic, green and scalable gift to organizations around the globe. The New Year offers a great opportunity to re-think your IT strategy and see how the cloud can benefit your organization.

Commoditisation of IT

Rocela
Martin Mutch
Martin Mutch - CEO, Rocela
IT has become a foundation stone in our lives - pervading all aspects of business and a keystone to personal and social communications. This high water mark perpetual licensing is increasingly archaic and unfit for the actual technologies and applications...

The Lessons of a 'Love Bug' Still Ring True

As recently as a decade ago, bank robbers had to physically enter the bank premises and overcome a defences. Today, they simply need to be clever enough to tr...

If you enter into conversation with any successful CEO you will quickly find a person with an excellent grasp of the company's future vision.  They will also be well versed in the makeup of the company's profit and loss statement and the revenues and expenses that contribute to them.
CEOs and senior managers relate to an IT department's costs-especially how much the IT department spends as a percentage of revenue. Most are strategic thinkers who do not want to get into the details of how a CIO is spending the company's money. Yet, they usually have a picture of how mu...
